About the score: On September 1998 was born Lara, the daughter of my oldest brother and he wrote then a poem which it was expected I compose a Lullaby. I read the poem and I did compose the lullaby´s refrain which came up straightaway, but the refrain and anything else…
Anything else until today, sixteen year after, when I have received an email from Marc Michael de Smet, conductor of the Belgium Chamber Choir AQUARIUS, with a charming proposal: The challenge present it to several composers around the world to compose contemporary choral Lullabies, proposal that you may read below.
Without any idea of what I might compose for this lovely project, I gave him an emphatic YES! Afterwards, by pondering about what might be the lyrics of my potential lullaby it came to my mind that poem of my brother, recalling me about the refrain I had composed 16 year ago for Lara… Today Lara is sixteen year old, but she has today two little cousins: a beautiful 'Layla' -of 3 years old- and a handsome curly 'Ary' of 5... To sum up: Everything has converged perfectly to compose my «Canción de Cuna para Layla y Ary» with a poem by my brother Jorge dedicated to my children and to Marc Michael De Smet and his wonderful instrument, Aquarius! I have had a lot of fun composing this piece; it is for me like a 'cable a tierra' piece, a piece that keeps my feet on the ground. Brief, enjoy the piece; do not take it very seriously; and if your little child fall asleep when listening it, that would make me VERY happy! So, it is a piece meant to the little public smile first and then fall asleep!
